The La Crosse Police Department said they’ve recovered the body of Eliotte Heinz, who went missing Sunday.
Authorities in Brownsville in southeast Minnesota reported that they recovered her body from the Mississippi River around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Heinz, a 22-year-old graduate student at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wis., was last seen just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday walking on the 500 block of Front Street South. Her friends and family reported her missing when they were unable to contact her.
The La Crosse Police Department and volunteers conducted searches in the area. Police asked home and business owners to check any cameras from the night Heinz was last seen.
In a statement, La Crosse Police chief Shawn Kudron gave the department’s condolences to Heinz’s family.
“This was not the outcome we had hoped for throughout this search,” Kudron said. “Our thoughts are with Eliotte’s family, friends and all those who knew Eliotte.”
The La Crosse Police Department is investigating the circumstances of her death.
