South St. Paul police are investigating a shooting that killed one person and injured another, prompting a shelter-in-place order for residents early Friday morning.
Police Chief Brian Wicke said in a statement that officers responded to a call at a residence on the 300 block of 2nd Avenue South around 3:45 a.m. They found one adult man dead of an apparent gunshot wound; a second was injured and was transported to the hospital.
Police believed the shooter had fled the scene on foot. The department searched the area and advised residents to stay inside.
Officers arrested a suspect on the 500 block of 1st Avenue South around 5:45 a.m.
Wicke said around 6:30 Friday morning that officers are still in the area gathering evidence. He said there is no ongoing threat to the public, and the shelter-in-place order has been lifted.
