Arsenal have had an opening bid for Botafogo striker Igor Jesus turned down by the Brazilian club.
Although the club continue to be linked with a host of big names like Benjamin Seško and Alexander Isak, there is an acceptance that making a move for them in January will be very difficult, and, therefore a stopgap solution might be needed to solve the Gunners’ lack of firepower.
23 year old Jesus, joined the Brazilian outfit from United Arab Emirates’ team Shabab Al-Ahli last summer, and has since scored eight goals and provided five assists for them.
Although the size of the Arsenal offer has not been revealed, he has an ₤83 million release clause in his contract, although Botafogo know that, realistically, they will not get anything like that for him.
Instead, a sum of ₤17 million might be enough to persuade them to part with him before the end of the month.
