Arsenal midfielder Jorginho will return to Brazil in the summer having agreed a pre-contract agreement with Flamengo.
The 33-year old is out of contract at the end of the season.
Signed from Chelsea in the 2022 January transfer window, he originally moved to the Emirates on an 18-month deal, before agreeing a one year contract extension. He has made 72 apperances in all competitions for the Gunners scoring twice, most recently in the Champions League at Girona last month.
His departure is no surprise. Arsenal are widely expected to overhaul their midfield this summer, and have been heavily linked with a move for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. However, there had been suggestions that he could be persuaded to move into coaching, something that he now appears to have deferred in order to prolong his playing career.
Jorginho was born in Brazil, but moved to Italy when he was aged 15, and subsequently was granted Italian citizenship, and has made 57 appearances for the Italian national side.
