Dan Burn: Newcastle and England defender signs contract extension until 2027

Newcastle United and England defender Dan Burn has signed a contract extension and will remain at St James’ Park until summer 2027.

The 33-year-old, who joined from Brighton in January 2022 and was going into the final year of his deal, has enjoyed a superb season with the Magpies.

He scored the opening goal and won the player of the match award in March’s Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool as they won their first major domestic trophy in 70 years.

Burn has featured 45 times in all competitions this season, missing just one Premier League fixture, and made his international debut in March’s World Cup qualifier against Albania in new manager Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge.

“I’m delighted to sign a new deal here,” said Burn, who hails from nearby Blyth.

“I knew that I was going into my last year and I really wanted to get my future tied down. I’ve said before that I would love to finish my career here so to be given that opportunity, I’m very grateful.
