GSA adds global AI providers to the schedule

The General Services Administration has added Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT offerings to the Multiple Award Schedule program as part of efforts to make it easier for agencies to buy artificial intelligence tools.

MAS is where agencies go to purchase commercial products, services and other solutions at pre-negotiated prices.

“By making these cutting-edge AI solutions available to federal agencies, we’re leveraging the private sector’s innovation to transform every facet of government operations,” GSA’s acting administrator Michael Rigas said in a release Tuesday.

Agencies are increasingly using AI to streamline processes and enhance customer and citizen experiences, with the goal of improving the delivery of mission critical services.

GSA made the move in support of the White House’s America’s AI Action Plan and the administration’s priority to accelerate the availability of AI tools across government.

This GSA announcement comes a month after the Defense Department signed a $200 million contract with the same three AI providers and xAI to make their tools available for national security missions.

“Making these solutions available through GSA’s MAS will facilitate strong, widespread federal agency adoption and ensure easy access to AI tools that will improve their everyday workflows and processes,” GSA said in its statement.

In essence, agencies now have one place to go to buy AI tools.
