How to get Google to highlight MPR News stories in your search results

When you search for news on Google, do you want MPR News to show up first?
Google has a new tool that lets you choose the sources you trust most. By selecting MPR News, you’ll make it easier to find our reporting across podcasts, articles and videos whenever you search.

Google launched a new program last month that lets you choose which news sources you want to see in your search results.

It’s called “preferred sources” and it lets you “customize your news experience in Search so you can see more of the sites you love,” according to Google.

It’s not going to remove other news sources when you search for all things Minnesota, but it will help put MPR’s relevant stories and information high in your Top Stories section, or in a section called From Your Sources on the search results page.

How to set your preferred sources

We’ve set up a link that will take you to Google’s source preference page, and it should already show “MPR News” in the results page. All you have to do when you get there is click the box on the right.

One the source preference page, search MPR News and click the box.

And while you’re there, feel you can add other sources you trust.

Why you should set your sources

Public media is facing cuts and new challenges and your trust means a lot. By choosing MPR News as a preferred source, you’re supporting independent, fact-checked local journalism.

It’s a small step that makes it easier to find our reporting. We work hard to verify and clarify the news, and we want to make sure it reaches you.
