JetBrains has revealed Kineto, a new AI app builder that aims to democratise software development by removing all barriers to creating apps.
How many brilliant ideas for an app have you had, only to see them fade away? That little flash of inspiration for a tool to track your houseplant watering, a simple planner for your week, or a fun quiz to share with friends. For most people, that’s where it ends. The gap between a great idea and a living, breathing app is a chasm filled with code, complex technology, and costs that put it well out of reach.
It’s a familiar story, and it’s the reason our digital world, for all its wonders, is still built by a relatively small group of specialists. But what if that were about to change? Imagine describing your app idea in plain English, just as you would to a friend, and then watching a fully working version come to life twenty minutes later. That’s the promise of Kineto.
This isn’t just another drag-and-drop website builder. While those tools are useful, you still have to do the building. And it’s not quite like the AI art generators we’ve seen, which often need a developer’s touch to become part of a real product. With its AI app builder, JetBrains is aiming for a world where you don’t need to know a single line of code to create a usable application.
“The key principle behind Kineto is no code for you at all. We and our tools take care of the coding, so you could focus on being creative,” JetBrains explains.
JetBrains is pouring its 25 years of experience in building tools for the pros into this AI app builder project, hoping to spark what they call a “creative dev economy.” It’s a future where your creativity is the only skill you need.
You start by telling Kineto what you want. You don’t need to sketch out every button or menu. You just explain your vision, and the AI figures out the user interface, the backend logic, and even the database needed to make it work. If you’re not sure how it should look, it will help you choose templates, colours, and fonts to get you started.
Then you wait. In about the time it takes to watch your favourite sitcom, Kineto does the heavy lifting, building, and testing of your app. What you get back is a working app prototype that you can start tweaking immediately, simply by chatting with the AI builder. You can ask it to add features, change the design, or even pop in some AI-generated art.
The current focus is on smaller applications like a personal blog, a fitness tracker, a meal planner, or a plant care app. However, the team at JetBrains says it’s already working on making Kineto capable of building much more complex ideas and even taking care of hosting it for you.

To get this right, JetBrains has opened up an Early Access Programme and are looking for creative people with no coding experience to give Kineto a spin. They’re especially keen to hear from you if you already have an idea bubbling away.
If you get in, you won’t just be a beta tester clicking on buttons. JetBrains says you’ll get the full support of the Kineto team, who will personally help you bring your app to life. It’s a chance not just to try a new tool, but to be one of the first to build something real with it.
JetBrains’ launch of its no-code AI app builder Kineto could be the next big step towards democratising software development. We learned to type, we learned to use spreadsheets, and we learned to edit videos on our phones. Kineto is betting that creating our own apps is the next skill that everyone can learn, simply by asking for it.
