WINNEBAGO, Neb. (KTIV) – A brand new $6 million science building officially opened Friday, May 2, at Little Priest Tribal College in Winnebago, Nebraska.
The science building will be the new home to the nursing, doctorate, engineering, and agriculture programs.
The facility is three stories and 12,500 square feet.
There are now two science labs on the third floor, three classrooms on the second floor, and a new student lounge on the first floor.
A couple of the labs and classrooms have cameras that will be utilized for Zoom classes to provide an additional resource to online students.
There are conference rooms with surround sound and extra security to ensure the safety of staff and students.
This new facility has been three years in the making.
“There was a denial, I would say. ‘He’s been talking about it, but it’s not going to happen.’ But now it’s done and there’s a sense of achievement kicking in. And the whole community is behind us,“ said Manoj Patil, Little Priest Tribal College president.
The facility will be utilized by future chemists, nurses, doctors, biologists, engineers, and agriculturists.
Patil hopes the new features will grow the population of the college.
“I had to do it because if the college has to grow, we had to have a facility that will attract those students here. And I think this facility here will be the beacon. A beacon of hope. A beacon for the success of the future. And the Winnebago community deserves it,” said Patil.
Patil says the facility was intentionally built to have a nice view from the third floor. He says it’s one of his favorite features.
