The city of North St. Paul is trying to determine whether any private data was compromised after someone in its police department clicked on a nefarious email about a week ago.
“We are currently investigating a single compromised business email account,” said city spokesperson Ava Griemert. “It was a cybersecurity incident, but thankfully because of our IT team's swift response, the unauthorized access was quickly identified, isolated, terminated.”
Griemert said North St. Paul has hired outside cybersecurity experts to make sure no private information was compromised.
"We are working with a third-party cybersecurity firm to conduct a full forensic investigation,” Griemert said. “At this time, we are pretty sure that no information has been leaked."
North St. Paul has insurance coverage for such incidents through the League of Minnesota Cities.
Meanwhile, online city services in St. Paul remain down after a cybersecurity breach there more than a week ago.
