World Cup 2027 qualifying: Wales aim for winning run – Elise Hughes

Elise Hughes says Wales will aim to win every remaining game in their Women’s World Cup qualifying group after they salvaged a draw against the Czech Republic.

Hughes came off the bench to head in a 93rd-minute equaliser as Wales drew 2-2 in their opening game on the road to the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.

Rhian Wilkinson’s team were short of their best in Uherske Hradiste but dug deep to claim a potentially vital point in Group B1.

Wales and the Czechs are expected to compete for top spot, with both nations now facing two winnable games against both Montenegro and Albania before they do battle again in Cardiff in the final group game in June.

Wilkinson’s team will look to get their first victory when they take on Montenegro in Llanelli on Saturday (16:30 GMT).

“There’s no excuses for us not to try to win every game in this group and we’ll go home, reset and look forward to playing at home again,” said Charlton Athletic striker Hughes.

“We’re looking to put things right and get three points and then end this camp on a high.”
