Crews were working on the ground and from the air late Wednesday to battle a wildfire in the highlands along Minnesota’s North Shore.
The Minnesota Interagency Fire Center said the Crosby Fire was detected Wednesday near the Caribou River, in the vicinity of George H. Crosby Manitou State Park.
That’s a couple miles inland from State Highway 61 and the Lake Superior shore, and about 10 miles southwest of Tofte.
Authorities estimated the fire at 30 acres in size late Wednesday, and said it was “smoldering and creeping in mixed hardwoods and leaf litter.”
There was no word on any containment of the fire, or a possible cause.
George H. Crosby Manitou State Park is a relatively remote park featuring trails and backpack campsites. Officials are asking people to stay away from the area while fire crews are working.
