  • Man Utd change style and win as Ruben Amorim says: ‘We suffered together’

Man Utd change style and win as Ruben Amorim says: ‘We suffered together’

As a football idealist, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has specific beliefs about how the game should be played – and the best way to win.

But his usual philosophy was not the one that brought the Christmas present of a 1-0 Premier League win over Newcastle.

For one thing, there was the formation switch.

Amorim joked in September that not even the Pope could persuade him to change, but for the first time since he took charge 13 months ago, he fielded a back four.

For another, victory was achieved with 33.4% possession, their lowest in any game this season. It was United’s lowest percentage of possession in a victory since the 29.4% they had when beating against Manchester City in January 2023.

They had nine shots at Old Trafford compared to Newcastle’s 16. The visitors had 43 touches in their opponents’ box. Amorim’s men had 15.

Yet it was Manchester United who prevailed, thanks to a combination of Patrick Dorgu’s first goal for the club – which was a sublime first-half volley from the edge of the area – and only a second clean sheet of the season.

It wasn’t pretty. But even for Amorim, sometimes there are days when substance trumps style.

“Yes,” was the unequivocal reply when asked if this was one of the ‘most satisfying’ wins of his, at times, tortuous 13 months in charge.

“The feeling is good. If you compared to other games, we suffered so much more today but in certain moments we put everything on the line.

“We are defending every cross. Especially if you see the second half, sometimes we managed to defend with a back six.

“We had so many games when we controlled the opponent so much better, but it is a good feeling to have a clean sheet. We suffered together. If we always have this spirit, we are going to win so many games.”

Panama warns of surge in E-commerce scams

According to an institutional report published by the newspaper La Prensa, an average of 16 fraud complaints are filed daily in the country, concentrated mainly in the provinces of Panama, Panama Oeste, and Chiriqui.

Behind each number are similar stories—items that never arrived, payments sent to phantom accounts, promises that vanish after a block—and one constant: the feeling of having been deceived in a space that seemed safe.

The study also reveals a sustained increase in cases over the last seven years, with a marked spike following the Covid-19 pandemic.

The most significant jump, according to the report, occurred in 2020, when cases rose to 3,586 amidst health restrictions and the surge in informal digital transactions.

By 2021, the number of complaints had skyrocketed to 5,354, more than double the number reported two years earlier, confirming a trend of accelerated expansion of scams, particularly those linked to e-commerce, fake loans, and deceptive offers.

Although 2022 saw another increase, with 5,514 cases, and 2023 a slight decrease to 5,068 complaints, the data shows that the phenomenon remains at historically high levels.

Brazilian eVTOL flying car performs unmanned flight

    Friday, December 26th 2025 – 22:03 UTC

The unmanned flight helped test the integration of essential aircraft systems
The unmanned flight helped test the integration of essential aircraft systems

Eve Air Mobility, a subsidiary of Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, has conducted the first flight of the full-scale prototype of its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in Gavião Peixoto, São Paulo state.

The unmanned flight helped test the integration of essential aircraft systems – such as the fifth-generation fly-by-wire concept – and rotors dedicated exclusively to vertical movement.

The aircraft performed a hover flight (remaining still in the air at a fixed point, maintaining constant altitude and position), which required precise control to balance lift and weight.

Henceforth, Eve will gradually expand testing until it achieves fully wingborne flight with the aircraft in 2026. “The prototype performed exactly as predicted by our models. With the data, we will expand the aircraft’s envelope and move forward with wingborne transition flight in a disciplined manner, increasing to hundreds of flights throughout 2026 and building the knowledge necessary for type certification,” Eve’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Luiz Valentini said.

According to the company’s Chief Product Officer (CPO) Jorge Bittercourt, the flight demonstrates the aircraft’s reliability, efficiency, and simplicity. “We have validated critical elements, from our lift rotor architecture to the aircraft’s flight mechanics, and now we are moving on to the flight test phase with a focus on evolving the product’s maturity,” he stated.

The aircraft project is funded by the Brazilian government’s innovation agency FINEP and has been allocated some R$37 million (around US$6,674,604) in subsidies.

The initiative positions Brazil at the forefront of urban air mobility. “This inaugural flight embodies Brazil’s strategy to lead the global transition to sustainable aviation, with cutting-edge technologies such as electric propulsion and artificial intelligence,” FINEP President Luiz Antônio Elias pointed out. Brazil: Azul Airlines’ stock plummets amid new issuance

    Friday, December 26th 2025 – 22:28 UTC

Azul is now viewed as a company in “structural transformation,” with a volatile future ahead
Azul is now viewed as a company in “structural transformation,” with a volatile future ahead

Azul Airlines’ stock experienced a severe market crash on Friday, with shares plummeting as much as 50% during intraday trading before settling at a 25% loss by mid-afternoon. The sell-off follows the airline’s massive issuance of new shares as part of its ongoing US Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring.

The market is reacting to the company’s aggressive strategy to raise capital and convert debt into equity. Azul issued approximately 1.4 trillion new shares (723.8 billion ordinary and 723.8 billion preferred). The operation seeks to raise R$7.44 billion (around US$1.3 billion) to stabilize the company’s finances.

According to finance circle analysts, this “massive dumping” of shares essentially “obliterates” the proportional ownership of current minority shareholders. This significant dilution is the primary driver behind the stock’s collapse, it was explained.

The current volatility comes shortly after a US judge approved Azul’s debt restructuring plan to eliminate more than US$2 billion in debt, which includes a US$1.6 billion commitment in financing and up to US$950 million in additional equity financing.

Azul has been operating under US bankruptcy protection since May, allowing it to maintain flights while reorganizing its balance sheet.

Beyond the share dilution, investors are concerned about signs of operational scaling back. The carrier recently renegotiated its agreement with Embraer, reducing its orders for new aircraft.

Experts suggest the market is now pricing Azul as a company in “structural transformation,” where future cash flow and final ownership structures remain highly uncertain.

New shares are now trading under tickers AZUL53 and AZUL54. Analysts warned that changes to the “standard lot” size and the sheer volume of new paper created initial confusion and a “technical adjustment” that intensified the downward pressure.

  • Why have footballers started their own YouTube channels?

Why have footballers started their own YouTube channels?

YouTube strategist Seb Losardo told BBC Sport that footballers are creating content for “control and connection”.

“This shift is about owning narrative, audience and career longevity. Fans get to see players in their real everyday lives; at home with family, in training, in the dressing room,” he said.

“This helps fans understand personality, context and journey, not just performance.”

Players “no longer have to reply on traditional media to shape how their story is told.”

“On YouTube, they control how they come across, how much context is given, and how they’re perceived.

“People engage with the human behind the athlete, rather than a media-managed version.”

    But why now?

“Audience behaviour has shifted. Fans increasingly spend more time with creator-led content and there’s a clear appetite for deeper access and authenticity.

“Players are more aware of the opportunity than ever before. They understand that they can grow a bigger platform if they start now rather than waiting until retirement,” Losardo added.

Being a content creator helps players build “long-term media assets”.

“Football is a short career, but a strong YouTube presence can last decades.”
