    Rosenior, a right-back, had a solid but unspectacular career as a player – featuring in the top flight for Fulham, Reading, Hull and Brighton.

    Roughly half his career was spent in the EFL and that’s where he started his coaching career.

    After a spell as Brighton‘s under-23s coach, he spent three years at Derby.

    He was first-team coach under Phillip Cocu and then assistant boss to Wayne Rooney – before taking over as interim boss after Rooney’s departure.

    But he was more hands-on than the average assistant.

    “There was an argument when Mel Morris sacked Phillip Cocu in November 2020, Rosenior should have been put in charge, not Rooney,” said BBC football news reporter Simon Stone.

    “Rooney had the profile of course, but it was Rosenior who put the sessions on at Derby and who guided the team during games.

    “Rosenior replaced Rooney for a short time in 2022, after administration had led to relegation into League One.

    “It was Rosenior who put Derby back together, helping to bring in 14 new players after the club had been left with only five under contract.

    “History suggests the new ownership would have been better leaving Rosenior in charge, given they were seventh when he left and under his replacement, Paul Warne, they didn’t even end with a play-off place.”

    He then spent almost two years as Hull manager – with observers again thinking he was harshly done by at the end.

    The Tigers were one point above the relegation zone when he took over in November 2022 and led them to 15th.

    The following season they finished three points off the play-off places, and Rosenior was sacked.

    In 2024-25 while Rosenior was leading Strasbourg into Europe, Hull City avoided relegation from the Championship on goal difference.

    Paraguay’s Grupo Vierci has signed a binding agreement to acquire 100% of GDN Uruguay’s shares, encompassing key retail brands including Supermercados TaTa, Farmacia San Roque, BAS apparel, MultiAhorro Hogar home goods, and wholesale chain Frontoy.

    The deal, announced on Friday, represents one of the most significant retail transactions in the Southern Cone in recent years. Completion of the acquisition is pending standard regulatory approvals, including the green light from Uruguay’s Commission for the Promotion and Defense of Competition.

    If completed, the takeover could result in changes to the everyday life of many Uruguayans, particularly through TaTa, a longstanding chain with over 70 years of operation, more than 200 stores across all 19 departments (provinces), and approximately 5,000 employees, and Farmacia San Roque, one of the country’s leading networks, where people can get their medicines.

    Industry sources noted that the seller, the Colombian-born Argentine businessman Francisco de Narváez, —GDN’s majority shareholder— is divesting Uruguayan operations to redirect capital toward a bid for control of Carrefour in Argentina. The French chain has long announced its intention to leave the South American country. However, the brand remains fully operational to date.

    Grupo Vierci, a family-owned conglomerate founded 58 years ago, operates in 10 countries, including the United States, Spain, Brazil, and Chile. In Paraguay, it is the largest private employer with over 18,600 direct jobs.

    The group has maintained a presence in Uruguay for more than 20 years, primarily through franchises such as Burger King and Subway, as well as distribution companies like Bliwell, Firstaren, and Marvisa. This acquisition markedly expands Grupo Vierci’s regional footprint.

    Retail experts project Grupo Vierci to drive accelerated e-commerce growth. The sales channel currently accounts for 3% of Uruguay’s retail trading, but the Paraguayan group’s bargaining power is feared to represent a challenge to smaller proximity stores.

    Argentina’s Foreign Ministry on Friday updated a travel advisory warning against visiting Venezuela, given the growing number of “arbitrary detentions” under the Chavista regime of Nicolás Maduro.

    The San Martín Palace urged Argentines to avoid all travel to Venezuela. “Given the grave situation in Venezuela and the arbitrary detentions of foreign citizens, the Argentine government reiterates its recommendation not to travel to that country,” Buenos Aires’ diplomatic headquarters said in a statement.

    This advisory was an update of a previous one issued in May last year, shortly before the family of Argentine Border Guard (Gendarmería Nacional) NCO Nahuel Gallo was allowed to leave Venezuela for Buenos Aires.

    In September 2024, arrest warrants were issued in Caracas against Milei and then-Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, now a Senator. In reciprocity, Maduro is wanted in Buenos Aires for crimes against humanity. The conflict escalated following Gallo’s detention in December 2024, after crossing into Venezuela by land from Colombia. His family and the Argentine government maintain he was traveling solely to visit his partner and son.

    Maduro’s Bolivarian administration has labeled Gallo as one of 125 foreign “mercenaries” allegedly involved in a plot against Vice President Delcy Rodríguez. Furthermore, Caracas has accused President Javier Milei’s administration of being “directly involved” in the alleged conspiracy. Buenos Aires has dismissed these charges as “false and unfounded,” repeatedly demanding Gallo’s immediate release.

    Absent all ties between the two countries, Argentina’s Foreign Ministry warned of a “consistent refusal by Venezuelan authorities to allow consular, legal, or any other form of assistance to detained citizens,” leaving foreign nationals with no legal safety net. Hence, President Javier Milei’s Libertarian government deems all travel there a high-security risk for Argentine passport holders.

    In a post published on his social media platform Truth, Trump stated that the operation was conducted “in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement” and announced that further details would follow, including a news conference scheduled for 11 a.m. at Mar-a-Lago.

    “Nuestra #ZonaDePaz está siendo brutalmente asaltada. Terrorismo de Estado contra el bravo pueblo venezolano y contra Nuestra América”, añadió Díaz-Canel.

    Tyrhys Dolan: Espanyol forward on his ‘unbelievable’ journey


    That support extends to a friendship that continues to shape him.

    Dolan grew up alongside Jeremy Wisten – a team-mate and close friend from his academy years.

    “He was the best person you could meet and we did everything together,” says Dolan.

    “I knew how much football meant to him and what it did for his soul. He lived and breathed football.”

    Wisten and Dolan were seeking scholarships at the same time, but Wisten struggled with injuries and was released by Manchester City.

    “It was a crucial time and you needed to be consistently playing,” says Dolan.

    “Jeremy kind of knew himself at Manchester City that he wasn’t really going to get a scholarship but he just struggled after that.”

    Wisten was 18 when he took his own life at his family home in 2020 – less than two years after the club let him go.

    “I think for him it was facing the world knowing that he didn’t have that logo of a footballer,” says Dolan.

    “When you’re younger, people don’t even say your name. They say ‘oh, there’s the footballer Tyrhys’ or ‘there’s the footballer Jeremy’. You’re not just a human, you’re a player.

    “And once you strip that back, you think ‘well if I’m not that, then who am I?’

    “It must have been really tough for him because I know a lot of people around him were doing really well in terms of football, getting the scholarships, getting pro contracts, making debuts – me being one of them.

    “It’s difficult to see when someone’s hurting so much and you’re achieving the thing that they want. It was the most heartbreaking moment of my life.”

    In Wisten’s honour, Dolan wears the number 24 at Espanyol. When he discovered it was one of only two available squad numbers, he felt it was more than coincidence as it was the date his close friend had died.

    “He’s with me,” says Dolan. “He’s achieved his dream. He’s made it because he’s on the pitch just like I am.”

    Wisten’s death led Dolan to become an ambassador for the Go Again charity, which supports young footballers dealing with the emotional impact of being released from academies.

    Having lived that experience, he wants to offer reassurance and perspective.

    “What’s a few minutes of my day?” he says. “It can last a lifetime for them.”

    Chile’s Supreme Court has struck down a legal mechanism known as “partial prescription” for crimes against humanity committed during the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship (1973–1990). The decision was made in compliance with a mandate from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR).

    Sentence reductions to crimes like kidnapping, forced disappearance, and qualified homicide violated the rights of victims and their families, the IACHR noted.

    The Supreme Court’s ruling results in the undoing of previous sentence reductions for human rights violators, since a statute of limitations is incompatible with international standards for crimes against humanity, directly impacting 14 criminal cases. Consequently, four convicts previously released were ordered back to prison, while 24 others will have their current sentences lengthened.

    The Court argued that while these cases were technically “settled,” they constituted an “apparent” final judgment that was legally invalid because it facilitated impunity for grave human rights violations. Therefore, the so-called res judicata criterion does not apply.

    The magistrates also reaffirmed that advanced age does not exempt convicts from serving prison sentences for these crimes. In the case of General Manuel Contreras, who was involved in these cases, the court declared his criminal responsibility extinguished due to his death. Human rights attorneys have hailed the move as a definitive end to “illusory sentences.”

    In the video message, Congolese Foreign Minister Therese Kayikwamba Wagner emphasized that the country is assuming an important responsibility in the service of international peace and security, describing the moment as one of dignity and commitment.

    The DRC joins the Security Council as a non-permanent member after more than 30 years, and at a time when it is facing a situation of insecurity and aggression. Kayikwamba Wagner thanked all UN member states for the trust placed in the country.

    She added that the country intends to carry out its term in a spirit of dialogue, committed to multilateralism and respect for international obligations.
