Dominican organizations reiterate support for Cuba

In a message addressed to President Miguel Diaz-Canel, the United Left Movement (MIU) affirmed that January 1, 1959, is a memorable date in its historical, political, libertarian, and independence dimensions.

The note highlighted the significance of this year, in which the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro (1926-2016) is commemorated, “whose humanist, integrationist, internationalist, unitary, solidarity-based, anti-imperialist, and anti-colonialist legacy continues to guide the innovative resistance struggle of his people.”

Furthermore, the MIU condemned the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, which it described as inhumane and contrary to the will of the majority of the countries that make up the United Nations.

It also recognized the effort and sacrifice of the Cuban people in the struggle to defend the sovereignty of their homeland.

“We reaffirm our friendship and fraternal relations with the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), with its State and Government authorities, and with the heroic and combative people,” the statement reads.

For its part, the Central Coordination of the Caamanista Movement highlighted the island’s resistance and endorsed the condemnation of U.S. aggression against countries such as Venezuela, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Colombia.

For its part, the Dominican Popular Movement asserted that the Cuban Revolution was the most significant in the region and in almost the entire world.

Fraser Forster: Former Spurs keeper ‘couldn’t say no’ to joining Bournemouth on six-month deal

Bournemouth have signed former Tottenham and Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster on a six-month deal.

The 37-year-old arrives at Vitality Stadium as back-up to first-choice stopper Djordje Petrovic after an injury to Will Dennis.

Forster, who won the last of his six caps for England in 2016, has been a free agent since leaving Spurs last summer when his contract expired.

“The opportunity arose and, for me, it was one that I couldn’t say no to,” he said.

“I am absolutely delighted. It’s happened pretty quickly but I am delighted to be here and be a part of it.

“I am looking forward to helping the team and the squad, and contributing however I can for the rest of the season.

“You can really see the trajectory and the ambition of the club, and I think that was a very attractive thing for me.”

Bournemouth, who are on a winless run stretching 10 top-flight matches back to 26 October, host Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday, with Forster expected to be among the substitutes.

Earlier on Friday, the Cherries confirmed Mexico right-back Julian Araujo, 24, had completed a loan move to Celtic.

Socialist Party of Peru celebrates Cuban Revolutionary anniversary

Describing the negative context of the anniversary, the PSP explained that Latin America is going through dark times in which imperial measures are expressed with greater force and sharpness, with the aim of encircling “not only territories, but also the thought, hope, and common sense of the people.”

Therefore, it added, “as another year of the Cuban Revolution is commemorated, something deeper is also confirmed: another year of resistance, struggle, and moral victory for a people who do not surrender.”

The PSP also stated that the situation has never been easy for Cuba, but never as challenging as it is now, although the fervor that ignited consciences 67 years ago remains intact.

“Yesterday’s struggle is the pulse of the present. And the revolutionary dream, far from fading, continues to fuel the construction of the new man, as Che envisioned him: with ethics, solidarity, and historical commitment,” he states.

He also affirms that “Cuba remains standing, with its dignity intact, resisting the inhumane blockade and the media war” waged by the powerful empire that seeks to isolate it from the world.

“And yet, Cuba showed to the world that the revolution is not only defended: it is also shared. It did so with education, with healthcare, with science at the service of the people, with solidarity transformed into a bridge and not empty rhetoric,” which Fidel Castro summarized in the phrase “Homeland is Humanity.”

  • Afcon 2025: Mohamed Salah scoring and Achraf Hakimi return – six things from group stage

Afcon 2025: Mohamed Salah scoring and Achraf Hakimi return – six things from group stage

Before every tournament, organisers always tell fans and media to expect “the best Afcon ever”.

While the jury remains out on that for now, Morocco 2025 is certainly making a strong case for being the wettest Afcon ever.

TV cameras have regularly picked up players’ shirts sticking to their skin in torrential downpours during a cold and rainy period in Morocco – in stark contrast to the tropical conditions that have often tested players at past tournaments.

Having enjoyed a short respite, the rain is forecast to return for all four days on which the last 16 ties will be played, testing the resolve of fans.

Stadiums have so far been far from full for matches not involving the hosts, but the quality of the facilities has been impressive, including the pitches which have soaked up the rain without a problem.

And while you cannot exactly call this Afcon a dry run, Morocco’s huge investment in renovating and building stadiums in preparation for co-hosting the 2030 Fifa World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal has definitely paid early dividends.

Irish Premiership: Larne beat title rivals Coleraine to go seven clear

Larne extended their lead at the top of the Irish Premiership to seven points after a comprehensive 3-0 win over second-placed Coleraine.

Three goals in a 10-minute spell earned the Inver Reds a victory which sends out a strong statement in their pursuit of a third league title in four years.

Substitute Andy Ryan, back after a lengthy knee injury, scored twice within 10 minutes of coming on as a second-half substitute.

Another Larne replacement, Paul O’Neill, wrapped the points with a third goal at a snowy Inver Park.

Ben Wylie, making his Coleraine debut following his switch from Portadown, had a half-chance to make himself an instant hero inside the opening two minutes but his shot trundled harmlessly through to Rohan Ferguson.

The visitors had the first big opening on seven minutes when Joel Cooper’s fierce snap-shot from the edge of the penalty area was beaten out by Rohan Ferguson. Wylie was the first player to react to the loose ball but he could only steer his effort over the bar.

At the other end, Coleraine defender Mark Connlly lost possession deep inside his own half and Matty Lusty spotted keeper Aidan Harris off his line but his attempted chip went narrowly wide.

Lusty came within a whisker again a few minutes later when he connected with Jordan McEneff’s low cross but could only divert the ball wide.

  • Celtic: Wilfried Nancy feeling Old Firm heat before Rangers derby

Celtic: Wilfried Nancy feeling Old Firm heat before Rangers derby

To feel the heat is a given for any Old Firm manager, and Celtic boss Wilfried Nancy has a cauldron bubbling beneath him.

Just over four weeks since he was announced as the permanent successor to Brendan Rodgers, he has lost five of his seven matches in charge.

Consequently, Nancy is under enormous pressure before Saturday’s derby against Rangers, not least from his own club’s supporters.

After defeats by Hearts and Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership, Roma in the Europa League and St Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup final, back-to-back league wins against Aberdeen and Livingston appeared to have steadied the ship.

However, Celtic were then outplayed and outfought on Tuesday as Motherwell swept to a fully deserved 2-0 win, and anger from Fir Park’s away end was apparent throughout.

Celtic are three points behind leaders Hearts, while Rangers would join Nancy’s side on 38 points with a win at Parkhead.

In a remarkable media conference before his first big derby, Nancy launched a passionate defence of himself and his team on Friday.

He delivered an extraordinary response to talk about his methods, including one answer that lasted seven minutes, as the game itself played second fiddle to the Frenchman and his job security.

“I know your job is to attack me, or to ask a lot of questions, no problem with that,” Nancy said. “My job is to be a coach, your job is to ask questions.

“If you want to judge me now, you can do it. I didn’t have the results we wanted – it’s a fact, I cannot deny that.”

He appealed for patience, but immediately accepted this is a job where the high stakes mean patience is in short supply.

“This is only the beginning. Usually, we have four or five weeks of pre-season. I didn’t have that,” Nancy said.

“The reality is, before I came, I knew if I didn’t win games, I was going to be in trouble. This is part of the job. I’m pleased to be here and I know where we are now.”
